Xiaomi’s Brand New Mi Electric Scooter

So, when Apple and Samsung are battling it off, boring their customers to death, giving them the same specs for their flagship devices this year, Xiaomi decided to get a little creative. Xiaomi, the 20-Billion Dollar Chinese Electronic Giant, unveiled the brand new member of Mi Family, the Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter on Monday at its MIJIA crowdfunding platform. The new scooter will be available from December 15 to the Chinese Public.

Xiaomi is not new to this ‘scooter’ stuff. They introduced the Ninebot Mini Self Balancing Scooter in October 2016, and the Qicycle Electric Folding Bike in June this year.

It seems there is no stopping to Xiaomi’s Electric Vehicle Projects, especially after the acquisition of Segway – an American Company that manufactured ‘Self-balancing’ electric vehicles.

And now the company has unveiled their third scooter, the Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter, with aircraft grade aluminum alloy body and a portable folding design!

Before we start looking at the specs, here’s the official video of the Ninebot Mini!

And here’s a video of the QiCYCLE Electric Folding Bike!

Here’s what we know as of now.

  1. The Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter weighs only 12.5 kg or 27.5 pounds!
  2. The scooter has a top speed is 25kmph or 15.5 mph
  3. LG 1850 EV-lithium ion battery (280Wh)
  4. Instantaneous power of 500W
  5. E-ABS Anti-lock braking system
  6. Takes 3 seconds to fold on the press of a button!

It’s also interesting to know that the Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter has a system that converts kinetic energy into electric energy, and hence increases the battery life of the scooter.

Users can adjust the value of this energy recovery system from the app itself. How cool is that!

The scooter can be connected with user’s smartphone via Bluetooth and allows users to track their speed, battery life, and even the scooter’s battery health.

Here’s the Bad news!

The company has not announced any plans for release in other countries.

So, it is very likely that, like many other Xiaomi products, the Mi Electric Scooter’s availability is restricted to China itself!
